What a back-saver!

I had a diving accident in 1975 and became a quadriplegic from the resulting spinal cord injury. At first, I tried doing manual self-transfers (i.e., getting in and out of the wheelchair), but I am not built right for that (i.e., I have short arms). We then tried assisted transfers, with a sliding board, but we all feared that, sooner or later, a family member and/or I would get hurt in the process.

We then bought a Hoyer lifter. No stress, no strain, no risk. They're not inexpensive, but they are invaluable. And, they are very, very durable. While we have had to replace the hydraulic cylinder twice (although one of the "leaky" ones stopped leaking after being replaced, and quietly sits in the basement, acting as back-up), the lifter itself is over twenty-five years old, and it functions like it's new, and it looks almost new. There are enough struggles in life, without having to engage in unnecessary ones. Great product!
